Top Tips for Staying on Top of Things!

So motivating!

If my suddenly-busy schedule has taught me anything, it’s that I am a pro-procrastinator. However, my ways of procrastinating often involve writing and rewriting my ‘to do’ list over and over until it’s perfect. Don’t ask me why but I find it so satisfying (not as much as actuallycrossing off my ‘to do’ list but shh). I see myself as quite a relaxed person when it comes to deadlines and getting stuff done, but I’ve always made the deadline and done quite well in terms of grades for essays, so I’ve decided to share a few of my tips with you.

Write everything down
Firstly, just write a ‘to do’ list. Get it all onto paper or into your ‘notes’ on your phone, just somewhere you look regularly, to be able to visualise your thoughts. I find this so useful when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I tend to prefer to…

Why?

Just a random pic I took. Makes the post pretty!

So I felt like it was about time I explain why I decided to name my blog, Peace In Vintage. One thing that is known about me is that I’m a Goodwill addict. I’m serious. It is my happy place. I’ve gotten all my friends addicted as well so when they have their half off sales I go with my family or my friends. For a long time one of my close friends called me a hipster just because my outfits were a bit different and so was my personality. It’s not that I don’t like anything main stream (secret die hard Taylor Swift fan, my mom even got me one of her CDs for Christmas) it’s just my taste is a bit different. I’m actually a big fan of vintage clothing and it’s reflected in my outfits. My mom always jokes around about how she wore that outfit when she was my age. It’s actually true. Some of my outfits reflect what her or my aunt wore at one point (I think I have a Jean jacket that actually used to belong to them). I love fedoras, vest and records. I just find those are more comfortable. I have a ton of records that were sadly damaged during moving so I plan to do some cool decorating DIYs with. There’s nothing wrong with being a bit old fashion.

Greetings. Salutation. Hi.

I’ve been gone for a while since I’ve had trouble balancing life and school and such. I feel terrible for it since I kept promising I would post and update everyone on what’s going on. My life is seriously about to take a turn for the better. I felt the need to definitely update you guys so I am sitting here late at night/early in the morning typing this up although, I probably won’t upload it until later today after I need time to sit down and edit, as well as find or take a photo to add. I’m hoping I will be a better blogger. SO…I’m hoping this will be a long post but if not sorry, please read!

It’s time. Yes it is time. It is time for the big move!! I hope that was as exciting as I was hoping it will be. After searching, getting things settled and discussing it, we are finally moving out. The house being rented out by a close friend of ours. We’re moving a little further out than I originally wanted to but I like the house and we get the master bedroom! Big plus there! Actually we plan on moving stuff over throughout the next couple of months but we will officially moving in May. It’s a big place with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large loft and backyard and nice appliances. I’ve already been given the go ahead to control how we will be decorating the house so I worry for the boys since I’m very picky. Sorry boys! I’m happy we’re moving out because not having privacy and space has officially driven me crazy (we’ve already had one person walk in the room as I’m typing). Finding a place is kind of what kept me busy and from blogging since I was calling realtors (who never answer their phones or emails!) and house hunting.

Along with getting a new place, I plan to start vlogging. If anyone does not know what that is, it is simply blogging through video just more personal and a bit easier to do since you can carry the camera with you throughout the day without too much worry or work. Yes, you have to edit the videos but I find that faster than typing. I’m actually on YouTube catching up on the vloggers I follow.

On the other hand, Luna has hit the three-month mark a couple of weeks ago, I’m still going to school (I’m on spring break now so maybe another post this week) and Chris is still working. More from me later.

Love yous! (On a coffee high!)

OMG. I have been M.I.A. for almost a month now and I will be explaining that soon. I just needed a break from blogging but I’m ready to come back and kick some blogging butt! There’s so much to tell you. I hate to leave you wanting more but sorry!

Opposite Day…More Like Week

This week is going to be completely different for me. I’m actually going to schedule my whole week out. That includes homework, chores, spending time with people…just everything. I’m actually getting ready to schedule my whole week out so I can just simply add anything that might come up. I’m also planning two post for today. One that will explain my reason for such extensive planning and the other about my thrift shopping trip I took yesterday. I need a bigger closet.

Wishes for February

February Goals

I came across a blog called, The Nectar Collective, a blog for bloggers. The article I read was Goals for February where they do a Weekly Wishes link party encouraging others to come up with goals for every week and share them with others. You would normally post on Monday but I was a bit preoccupied. Better late than never. Although it is normally called weekly wishes, since it is the first week of February, I decided to start off with writing about my goals for this month.

Last month, I wrote about how Chris and I had started envelope budgeting but since it was the end of the month, who knows if it actually worked so this month, my goal, in the financial department, is to keep track of our spending and stick to this envelope budgeting to see if it helps at all.

I started school so I have homework, chores, family and blogging to balance out right now. After spending tons of time on pinterest, looking at different ways people organized I’ve come up with a way that works for me. I now schedule almost everything; time for homework, errands Chris and I have to run, time for blogging and etc. Now to just stick to the schedule!

With Luna turning two months this Thursday, spending time with her is my main priority. I read to her, play music for her (heck she’s sitting in my lap as I type this up) but the one thing I feel like I don’t do enough is speak to her in Spanish, especially since I can’t speak it. So in order to teach her another language, I’m going to have to learn to speak Spanish.

My last goal for the month is just to spend more time with Chris and Luna without technology around. I wanna go to the park with Luna, sit and talk with Chris, heck even read a book in my free time. I just need less technology in my life. I want more personal experiences so I can capture them on camera (contradicting my less technology goal) since I don’t have a lot of pictures of us just spending time together, they’re all of just Luna. She’s growing up fast and I just want to catch those special moments.

Next week will be my first Weekly Wishes post but for now I’ll leave you with my Monthly Wishes post! I encourage you to try it yourself and see if you stick to any of them. Also, check out The Nectar Collective, they have some awesome posts especially for those learning to blog.

Fallen off the Wagon

wagon

After my little outburst, I was able to calm down and think a bit more rationally. I talked to the person and resolved the issues. Now I’m in a better place. I still want to move out but that’s just so I could have more space (a little extra privacy wouldn’t hurt either). Thinking and talking about moving out reminded me of my goals for this year and how I haven’t posted an update just yet, so why put it off any longer?

So my first goal was to become a healthier person. After writing the post about my resolutions, check it out here if you haven’t yet, I had been so pumped up to get started. I went on Pinterest (check out my workout board) and found recipes for smoothies, monthly workout calendars, workout outfits and motivation. I decided to cut down on all my bad habits and try to become a healthier person. I had done a good job but then, the wagon started to get bumpy. I decided not to completely cut myself off from soda and to have only one a day. Well, Chris decided to buy some so I could have my one a day soda. Didn’t work out so well since I drank almost both twelve packs on my own. After that, I decided not to keep them in the house so I wouldn’t deal with my temptation. I started zumba this week, but we haven’t gotten to start the workout part until next week. Hopefully this will build my stamina up especially since all of February, I have a workout calendar I want to follow and I want to start running as well. As for my relaxing and me time, I bought another candle, strawberry kiwi scented but I have yet to take some time to journal, or finish that meditating book. I hope to finish it before February starts.

My other goal was to save money so we could move out and I could get my license and car. Well Chris was more than happy to begin a budget so we decided to try a specific kind of budgeting called, Envelope Budgeting (there’s a ton of articles out there about it, look it up and try it for yourselves!). It’s pretty straight forward and easy. You come up with categories based on where your spending goes: Chris, Luna, Myself, Entertainment and Dining, Junk Food, and Miscellaneous, then you decided how much you want to put into each category. Instead of using your debit card, you pull the money out and put them into envelopes that are labeled for each category, you don’t have to use all of your income and I definitely would recommend using only half of it for budgeting while the rest goes into your account. Once the money runs out, your done. You do this every month, and with the money left over at the end of the month, you put it into a savings account. Some people put half of it into a credit card to build credit, (might try this myself) and the rest into the savings account. They also only use their debit or credit cards to by gas and pay bills, like rent and utilities. Since Chris and I started half way through the month, we decided we’d only spend half of what of we decided for each category. That would be $132.50, and now we’ve only spent about $47 dollars. The rest will be going into a savings account, with the extra money that we didn’t put into the budget from the income, that we’ll be using so we can get a car then eventually, rent a house (which means we might have at least $400 or $500 at the end of the month that will go towards a car). As for my license, I’m going to test for that on Friday! Wish me luck!

As for my goals this year, it’s been a rough start but I’m making progress. Slowly but surely, I’ll get there.

Revelations Come to Light

I typed up a post about my current favorites that varied from apps to shows to just random objects…then I deleted it. After reading it, I realized, that’s not what I want to blog about. I’m here to blog about balancing life, especially when you have a young child. I want to blog about my goals, the journey to accomplish them and be an inspiration for others. I finally realized why I blog. It took a couple months but it clicked, it finally clicked.
Normally when you start a blog, you have an idea of why you’re blogging, who you’re blogging for and how you’re going to connect with your readers? I’m blogging not only for myself, but for young mothers, college students or just about anyone trying to balance life. I’m connecting to readers by simply being true to both myself and those that read my blog.
Now with that revelation out of the way, I want to update everyone on how my resolutions are going…but I shall save that post for another day. Let’s continue this journey another time…

Hoping for Change in 2015

2015

Time for that New Year’s Post.

I know everyone starts the year of with these New Year’s Resolution post and they’re very cliché. I’m normally not a cliché person (which is why my friends call me a hipster) so it’s ironic that I’m doing a resolutions post. I normally over do it with the resolutions but this year I simplified to four simple resolutions.

1. Become a healthier person.

I’m not going to lie. I have an addiction to soda and fast food. I really need to cut it out. I’m taking a zumba class in college. I learned that if you have a work out buddy you’re more inspired to work out. Well in zumba class, I have my friend Mandi. Now outside of class, I still need to work out so I recruited my friend Caitlyn when she’s free or it’ll be my mom and sister. I’m hoping to work out at least four times a week.  As for the soda and fast food addiction, I plan to drink at least 32 ounces of water everyday and eat healthier or make healthier eating choices. Part of becoming a healthier person is to become healthy both physically and mentally. I want to have more me time. I want to spend less time on social media and more time reading. I’m actually reading a book on mediation since it’s supposed to help you sort out your thoughts.

2. Save money.

I want to save money for many reasons but how I plan to do that, I plan to budget, use coupons and many sites that offer discounts such as RetailMeNot. I want to save money for a place of our own, a car and other necessities.

3. Move out.

Right now my boyfriend, daughter and I are living with my boyfriend’s family. We don’t pay a lot of rent and we have people helping us as well as it’s only a couple of minutes away from my mom and family but I just feel overwhelmed. There’s a good amount of people who live there so we don’t get as much privacy or space that we would need for a family of three. On top of that I just feel overwhelmed by all the help but I feel bad if I don’t let them help. I wanna raise her not to get spoiled and want to limit her on certain things but they (I feel like under-mind would be too strong a word) ignore what I want for her and says “Oh she’s just a baby”. Plus I’d like to live a little closer to my family because I feel like they don’t get to see her enough. This is part of the reason I would like to save money.

4. Get my license and a car.

It’d be a bit hard to move out if I didn’t have a way to get around. I really need to get my license which involves more practicing and being a more confident driver.

Now with these resolutions, I’m introducing a a new series, Monthly Resolution Check In. It’s my way of keeping up with my resolutions and as an inspiration. I feel I’ll be more inspired to continue if I know I’m going to be writing about it later. Wish me luck!

Sneak Peek: What’s in My Bag?

A Chance, A Risk, A Change

My Purse

Taking a sneak peek into what is in someone’s bag can definitely give you an insight into what type of person someone is and sometimes the experiences the person has encountered. A person’s bag will either contain a lot of items or just a few simple ones but no matter what you can be certain that the bag is important otherwise why carry it with you. Since this is my first time blogging I decided to start with a What’s in My Bag post in hopes that it will help you learn a little about who I am. I will not provide a full list of everything in my purse because I am one of those people who carries a lot, specifically when I use a large purse, so we would be here for what would seem like eternity. Now I can tell you that my purse itself is nothing special but some of its contents…
